2019’s Water & Irrigation conferences!

With regional droughts, political changes, shifting markets, and every-changing weather, discussions on water resources, management, safety, and delivery will be a top priority for many of us. Here is a list of this year’s conferences on irrigation and water issues, particularly those related to agriculture, sorted by date. Let us know if we missed any events that should be added here.

7th Annual Operations & Management Training Workshop

This year’s theme is “Constant Improvement Through Training.” We will have increased emphasis on training and assisting irrigation districts and water agencies to foster cultures of safety and constant improvement. Our workshop is designed to provide an opportunity for general managers and directors of irrigation districts and water agencies to discuss ideas and exchange information on a variety of district operations and management-related issues, to build out-of-state working relationships, and to learn from their peers.

52nd Annual Mid-Pacific Region Water Users’ Conference

The primary purpose of the California Irrigation Institute is to host an annual conference on California water issues, water use efficiency, water quality and surface and groundwater management. The conference features leading water industry experts, government agency heads, water district managers, innovative farmers and vendors with leading water saving products. Puget Sound Region Agricultural Drainage Conference

The first Puget Sound Region Agricultural Drainage Conference, hosted by WSU’s Center for Sustaining Agriculture and Natural Resources, will be a day for staff and District Commissioners from regional organizations working on agricultural drainage issues to share challenges, solutions, lessons learned, and begin to set the stage for potential future collaborations, research efforts, or conversations. The day will feature interactive panels, relevant discussions, and ample time for networking and meeting folks working on similar issues.

The Utility Management Conference

Iowa Water Conference

The Iowa Water Conference is the largest outreach and collaboration effort of the Iowa Water Center and is designed to bring together multi-disciplinary organizations and institutions to discuss relevant water issues across Iowa. The inaugural event in 2006 combined several existing conferences with the purpose of coordinating research and management efforts. Today’s conference draws over 400 attendees and strives to encompass the whole of Iowa’s water landscape including expanding into realms of education and outreach, conservation, policy and regulations.

Wisconsin Land and Water Conservation

Each March, WI Land+Water holds an annual conference to provide valuable networking opportunities, forums to discuss programs, practices, and new ideas with colleagues, a chance to build technical knowledge, and space to be reinspired by the passion for conservation across the state. Our conference provides dozens of valuable, up-to-date professional improvement breakout sessions and training for county staff and supervisors, agency partners, and any conservation professionals across the state. The content of these sessions varies depending on statewide input and current issues, and typically range for agricultural management, wildlife habitat restoration, and urban stormwater practices. The sessions provide Continuing Education Credits (CEUs) and Professional Development Hours (PDHs) for technical staff to maintain current licenses and knowledge of best practices in the field.

Federal Water Issues Conference

The mission of the NWRA, through its adopted objectives and resolutions, is to: Promote the development, control, conservation, preservation and utilization of the water resources of the nation, Cooperate with and assist federal, state and local agencies in securing prompt approval of and funding necessary for the construction, operation, maintenance and replacement of water projects, Preserve and promote the rights and interests of the states in their water resources, subject to interstate compacts and treaties. Conduct a public information program and support research programs which will clearly inform the public of the primary and secondary regional and national economic benefits and the great contributions irrigation and other water resources developments make to human needs, including food, recreation, sanitation, power, social progress, and a high quality environment, and to the overall strength and needs of our nation, and establish an objective factual record on the environmental and economic impacts of existing and proposed water resources development projects; present such factual record in appropriate forums; assist, as appropriate and justified, in the defense of water resource development projects; and present testimony before Congress, state legislatures and other legally constituted agencies of government that will lead to the orderly authorization, funding, construction and operation of needed and meritorious projects.

Irrigation Show 2019

The 2019 Irrigation Show and Education Week is a program of the Irrigation Association, a not-for-profit 501(c)(6) organization dedicated to promoting efficient irrigation. Unlike for-profit trade shows, revenue from the Irrigation Show supports IA initiatives to benefit its members and the irrigation industry by improving industry proficiency through continuing education; recognizing and promoting experience and excellence with professional certification; ensuring industry standards and codes reflect irrigation best practices; and influencing water-use public policy at the local, state, regional and national levels. The 2019 show will be co-located with the National Ground Water Association and the American Rainwater Catchment Systems Association.

WSWRA Annual Conference

The Washington State Water Resources Association (WSWRA) is the coordinating agency for irrigation districts in Washington State. WSWRA represents over 100 irrigation districts and companies that deliver water to over 1.1 million acres of irrigated agriculture in the state. The association has a 15-member board of directors made up of irrigation district directors and managers.
