2024 Water & Irrigation conferences


With climate challenges, political changes, shifting markets, and ever-changing weather, discussions on water resources, management, safety, and delivery will be a top priority for many of us once again.

Here is a list of this year’s conferences on irrigation and water issues, particularly those related to agriculture, irrigation management, utilities, and conservation sorted by date. Let us know if we missed any events that should be added here.

Water Resources Research Center (WRRC) 2024 Annual Conference

The WRRC 2024 Annual Conference, Implementing Water Solutions Through Partnerships, held on March 12–13 at the University of Arizona Student Union. This year’s conference program focuses on how solutions to Arizona’s water resources concerns are being realized. Throughout the state and region, many in our communities are hard at work implementing solutions to a wide range of water challenges. Attendees join the conversation to share and learn about how we work together to solve some of our most critical water resource issues.

2024 GWC Conference on the Colorado River

For many years, full reservoirs on the Colorado River made for relative peace and stability among the basin’s major water users, despite lingering concerns over environmental degradation, unfulfilled promises to Tribal Nations, and the eventual consequences of water over-allocation and overuse. That era has abruptly ended, challenging the authors of modern Colorado River policy to quickly draft new chapters stabilizing the system through 2026, directing post-2026 reservoir operations, and articulating the long-term vision and strategies for achieving a healthy, sustainable and equitable river system. It is a formidable, multi-faceted agenda being addressed in many ways.

Toward Sustainable Groundwater in Agriculture

This three-day international conference with a pre-conference workshop day will bring together leading scientists, policy analysts, policy and decision makers, and agricultural and environmental interest group representatives from around the world to define and highlight the science of and the challenges in groundwater resources management and groundwater quality protection within and related to agricultural landscapes. The conference will also offer a forum to identify promising technical and policy solutions that provide a sustainable future for groundwater and food production at regional, national, and global scales.

WCA Annual Conference

The conference is held every fall in various locations around the state and is a unique opportunity for county officials to come together and learn from one another, as well as receive updates on county issues. The mission of USCID is to promote progressive and sustainable irrigation, drainage and flood control practices in support of food and fiber production and public safety, recognizing that sustainability embodies economic, social and environmental goals. USCID is a non-profit professional society whose members share an interest in the planning, design, construction, operation and maintenance of irrigation, drainage and flood control works, agricultural economics, water law, and environmental and social issues affecting irrigated agriculture.

Northeastern Colorado Fall Water Symposium

Northeastern Colorado water users will hear from multiple speakers regarding regional water topics. The Symposium will include a focus on the value water provides to our region and the importance of preserving the region’s base water supplies going forward. Related will be a forum discussing the ongoing challenges of growth. Additional presentations will include regional fire impacts to nearby water supplies, the management of aquatic weeds, an update on Colorado River happenings and the recently completed Colorado River Connectivity Channel project.

The event will also include remarks from the new State Engineer Jason Ullmann and Colorado Water Conservation Board Executive Director Lauren Ris. Also, don’t miss the latest updates on construction of the Chimney Hollow Reservoir Project and environmental projects associated with the Northern Integrated Supply Project.

Registration will open in late September 2024.

New Mexico Water Conference

Join us November 4-6, 2024, for the New Mexico Water Resources Research Institute 69th Annual New Mexico Water Conference.

We welcome students, young professionals, water experts, stakeholders, academics, and water professionals from pueblos, tribes, and nations all across the state to learn more about the pressing water issues facing New Mexicans across the state’s diverse hydrological landscape. This year’s conference will be held in a hybrid format in Pojoaque at the Buffalo Thunder Hilton Resort, and online via Zoom.

An optional pre-conference field trip will take place on Monday, November 4, the day before the conference begins, in which the City of Santa Fe Water Division will welcome participants to tour the Buckman Direct Diversion and its associated water treatment plant. That evening, following the field trip there will be a welcome reception held at the Buffalo Thunder Resort open to all registrants.

We have an informative day-and-a-half program scheduled, which will include two multi-track sessions to allow more presenters to share their work and insightful perspectives, allowing attendees more choices to choose from.

Our event kicks off the morning of Wednesday, November 6 with our Leadership Forum during which participants will map out the the association’s policy and operational objectives for the coming year.

The Annual Conference will commence thereafter, with keynotes, educational presentations, and committee, caucus, and board meetings, and a steady stream of networking in between.

Along the way we will be joined by leading policymakers and industry officials who will tee up discussions on the issues and challenges confronting the water sector today. And importantly, there will be conversations surrounding what to expect from the new administration and Congress that will be convening in early January.

Oregon Water Resources Congress (OWRC) 2024 Annual Conference
